Tailored residences on a hill

In Belgrade’s Lekino Brdo neighbourhood, a remarkable and iconic architectural landmark has emerged. The “Merin Hill” apartment complex showcases a distinctive design, creative utilisation of loft space, and a compelling visual identity.

Meeting everyone’s needs

Focused on maximising the location’s potential while upholding high-quality standards, the design produced 184 meticulously crafted apartments. Each unit was tailored to the specific terrain and urban planning constraints, offering a range of interior layouts to cater to diverse needs.

The environment inspired the creation of a “double façade,” a membrane partially detached from the main building structure, enhancing privacy for apartments and terraces. This feature allows for large glass partitions on the terraces and French windows in the rooms, seamlessly merging functionality with aesthetic appeal. The sloping terrain was artfully utilised to create spacious green gardens, with residential units positioned around a central inner courtyard, designed as a plateau.

Clever design

Particular focus was placed on designing a roof that complements the surrounding architecture. Duplex flats with lofts, often considered less desirable, were transformed into highly sought-after units through innovative design.

Rather than following the typical layout, the living areas were relocated to the attic, with the bedrooms positioned on the lower floor. This arrangement created expansive living spaces that open onto large rooftop terraces, offering breathtaking views.

Safe and efficient

The building is divided into five sections, with road-facing premises separated from the residential units, which are accessed through the courtyard, ensuring privacy for the living spaces. The architects opted for Porotherm 20 S P+E clay blocks for this project.

These blocks, designed specifically for multi-storey residential buildings, offer excellent seismic resistance and meet high standards for cost-effective construction. The large format of the clay blocks allowed for rapid construction while the walls’ shear strength and superior thermal properties ensure long-term value for both residents and owners.
